Christmas Recipe Cards Silhouette Studio
In this Silhouette Studio® tutorial, we will create a simple recipe card. Once designed, the template can be used again for other recipe cards by just switching the pattern fill and graphic.
The card will be an oversized recipe card at 5 by 7 inches, which allows room for the pattern fill border, as well as the recipe text area. The text area is the standard 4 x 6 inches recipe card.
I will be working in the Business Edition of Silhouette Studio but this tutorial will work with any edition, except some advanced features may not be available.
Open your Silhouette Studio and let's get started. First we will turn on the Snap to Grid feature, which makes it easier to position the design elements.

Open your Silhouette Studio and let's get started. First we will turn on the Snap to Grid feature, which makes it easier to position the design elements.
- If Snap to Grid is not already turned on, from the top menu, click View - Snap to Grid.
- With the Drawing tool, draw a rounded rectangle that is 5 x 7 inches.
- Draw a second rectangle that is 4 x 6 inches.
- Center the second rectangle within the first.
- With the second rectangle still selected, open the FILL panel. Click the Fill Color icon and fill the rectangle with white.
- Select the larger rectangle and fill it with green. We will fill it with a pattern later (see screenshot).
- Select the Text tool and add the word Recipe: to the left side of the card.
- Open the TEXT STYLE panel and set the following (see screenshot).
Font to Snell Roundhand
Size to 36 pt
Left Align - From the Quick Assess Toolbar, set the Fill and Stroke colors for the text to black.
- With the Line tool, draw a line from the end of the word and about 2.5 inches long. Set the Stroke to black and the Stroke Size to 1 pt (see screenshot).
- Repeat the previous steps to add the word Serves: to the right side of the card. Set the Font Size to 24 or 18 pts. Add a second shorter line.
- Drag a Guideline from the top and right rulers and place them next to the R in Recipe.
- Select the word Serves: and the shorter line. Click the Duplicate icon in the Quick Assess Toolbar.
- Drag the duplicate word and line to the bottom of the card and place it next to the Guideline.
- Change the word to From the Kitchen of: and extend the line to 2.5 inches (see screenshot).
Now we can begin to add the text to the recipe card.
